An incredibly special film for Wellways and the Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services, our task was to create a campaign video that raised awareness of an often overlooked role in our society for National Grandparents Day.
We had one day, one location, three actors, and about a dozen short scenes to illustrate the light and dark of the incredibly emotional and complicated task of being a grandparent carer.
This campaign video had to be authentic, naturalistic and restrained, with no scripted dialogue in sight. We improvised all the action on the day and let the actors lead the coverage. It was all about setting the good vibes and getting these *absolute strangers* to look like a family on screen.
Cinematographer Brian Loewe and director Tony Walsh decided on anamorphic lenses for this one, but with such a tight schedule and a modest crew we had to be really smart with how we shot it, moving at almost doco pace.
Our editor Matthew Sawyer nailed the edit, with the only feedback from the client being how much they loved it.
